Ongoing Support for Trained Interpreters
One and a half hour biweekly support and development meetings are held, open to trained medical and community interpreters. These meetings cover trouble-shooting, peer support, role-play practice and discussion on ethics, professionalism and any difficulties. Vocabulary building and memory building are also focused on.
Provider & Staff Training: Effective Use of Interpreters
This training is conducted on-site to clinic or agency staff and providers. It lasts between one to two hours, and covers:
- What are current regulations and guidelines regarding language services?
- What do I do when I have a client who does not speak English?
- What to expect from a trained interpreter?
- How do I use an interpreter effectively? (Even if they are not trained)
- How can I help the interpreter help me? (Techniques)
Ongoing Consultation of Technical Assistance for Providers and Provider Organizations
REACH NOLA offers on-site consultation and technical assistance to healthcare and social service provider organizations in Louisiana, to develop systems and programming to better support and serve their LEP clients.
