This local article shows graphs of percentages of uninsured Hispanics in the U.S. population, Louisiana parishes with the highest percentage of Hispanic resident. Results from a survey conducted among Mexican immigrants on recent health, dangerous job, type of injury/illness, sought medical care in New Orleans, percentage seeking medical care that received it, and how medical care was paid for. The article tells the story of one specific LEP man trying to seek healthcare services. The article then talks about language barriers and existing services in local health organizations and inadequate attempts to bridge the language gap through the use of children. Other barriers such as knowledge of services, cost, transportation and time are mentioned as well.
